Description:
This is elegant wine with an open and very aromatic bouquet. Fresh, lively palate with hints of dried fruits and apricot. Delicious wine from a renowned vintage - possibly the best since 1811! drinking beautifully now.

Note on Tokaji Aszú: The wine making techniques date back to the early seventeenth century. The base wine grapes are harvested in September and vinified as a normal white wine. From mid October raisin like or Aszú (Aszú is the Hungarian term for grapes that have been shrivelled by noble rot) grapes are hand picked and lightly pressed. 3,4,5 or 6 'puttony' (approx 50lbs) of grapes are added per 136 Litres of base wine. After maceration, the wine naturally undergoes a second fermentation. The wine aged in small oak barrels for a minimum of 4 years is left for a further 9 months in bottle. Crown Estates own much of the heart of the production, which were formerly the Austro-Hungarian Royal Estates and are now usually considered amoungst the very top producers. A final note - the name Tokay is the Anglicised version of the wine region of Tokaj (Tokaji simply means of Tokaj, so the area around the town of that name) and is nothing to do with the Alsace grape that was known as Tokay Pinot Gris.
