Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque 2002
The wine is enticing: clear and bright with a few hints of gold.
The nose is typical of Belle Epoque: with fresh white fruit such as peach, moving into floral notes of hawthorn and acacia. This is rounded off by citrus aromas: grapefruit and pineapple; with a hint of vanilla, the first sign of the wine’s development.
The initial impression is intense, yet it is a delicate wine with a fine balance between structure and acidity, giving harmony and elegance.
The first great vintage champagne of the 21st Century. Truly the epitome of charm and elegance, reflecting the Chardonnays of Cramant and Pinot Noirs of Mailly.
Grape Variety:
50% Chardonnay from Cramant, Avize, Le Mesnil/Oger and Oger; 46% Pinot Noir from Mailly, Aÿ, Ambonnay and Mareuil/Ay and 4% Pinot Meunier from Dizy and Venteuil.
The final dosage was kept low at 9g/l to enable the elegance and subtlety of the wine to shine through.
The cellar master decided on an optimal ageing of 6 years before disgorgement to maintain the balance and freshness of this 2002 vintage.
